There is a belief around the world that Florida is overrated. Tourists may come in droves, but Florida is rarely viewed as a mecca of art or meaningful culture.
In Northeast Florida, there is also a large and often disregarded city. For years, Jacksonville has been viewed as average, backwards or as an extension of southern Georgia.
Nevertheless, Jacksonville is rising. There is a renewal of the urban core, a renaissance of art, an explosion of culinary developments, and an aura of something coming that is both radically and wonderfully distinct from the rest of Florida, and unique to the world.
Jacksonville Rising is meant to be a documentation of this transformation, as well as a central theme for my blogging and photography.
