Jacksonville Zombie Walk 2015: With Zombie Haikus
“I loved my momma
I eat her with my mouth closed,
how she would want it.”
The Undead Gather for a Great Cause
The 8th annual Jacksonville Zombie Walk took place on October 18th at Hemming Park. The walk began at four in the afternoon and the undead marched through downtown.
Defeated Jaguar fans did not seem amused by the undead blocking early exit roads from the game, but most bystanders enjoyed the spectacle and joined in for pictures or filmed the event on their phones.
Participants came in their best zombie apocalypse attire and brought non-perishable food, clothing, toys or cash to contribute to the Hubbard House, which supports victims of domestic violence.
After attending numerous Zombie Walks in Seoul, I can only hope for bigger turnouts in the future. Also, while I’m a huge proponent of downtown Jax, the event needs to be held in an area with more people. Nothing creates a better atmosphere for Zombie Walks than standard pedestrians who can witness the carnage unfold.
Overall, it was a great event and I met some really fun and creative people. Plus, you can never go wrong with sexy, zombie girls 😉 I absolutely love to see events like these unfold and grow in Jax!
Below are photos of the event, along with inspired Zombie Haikus. A few are written by me, but I stole most of these from Ryan Mecum’s awesome book, Zombie Haiku: Good Poetry for Your…Brains.
“No zombie movies
start in Jacksonville. Too bad,
Baptists are tasty.”
“Vegans don’t eat meat
when they turn into zombies.
You look like wheat grass.”
“Little old ladies
speed away in their wheelchairs,
frightened meals on wheels.”
“Blood is really warm,
it’s like drinking hot chocolate
but with more screaming.”
“Always be careful
when you’re biting teeth with teeth.
Dead teeth tend to lose.”
“Bitting into heads
is much harder than it looks.
The skull is feisty.”
“A man starts yelling
‘”When there’s no more room in hell…”‘
but then we eat him.”
“You are so lucky
that I cannot remember
how to use doorknobs.”
“They don’t talk to me.
Although I try to reason,
they don’t seem to care.”
“I felt your lips, teeth
brush against my shoulder blade,
but it was not love.”
“Crowding in the street
The zombies shuffle their feet
No one left to eat.”
Sick pictures! They went hard with the make-up.

Thanks. Did you ever go to the one in Seoul? That was hard.

Only the ones that led me back to my house as the sun was rising. I think they were called ‘typical nights in Hongdae’.

I was so sick of Hongdae nights when I left Seoul, now I would love to have one back. 🙂
